Image alt text is an important factor in SEO and if you have good alt texts for all your images, then it will go a long way in enhancing your keyword ranking.

However, alt texts for logos and buttons must be created differently from how they are created for images.
Google has given an excellent explanation on what must be the alt texts of buttons and logos.
We will talk about functional images first.
There are images that have some functions to do on a webpage. Say for example the logo on a webpage that has a link back to the homepage of the website.
You must see if the image is a link or not a link. If it is a link that will take the user to another page on the website, then it makes sense to add that as the alt text.
For example, as mentioned above, if there is a logo in a webpage, that if clicked will take the user to the home page, then you can give it the alt text “home” or a more descriptive one, if you wish so.
On some webpages you can see both the logo and text of the logo placed next to each other and there would be one link for both the logo and the text.
The text next to the logo would be describing the function of the logo. In that case you need not add the function of the logo as the alt text. Instead, you can use a null alt text (alt=””) for the logo.
On some webpages icons would be used to represent a link. For example, on many websites you can see the logo of an envelope used to represent the email.
When you click on the logo, your email client will open up together with the email id of the website on the ‘to’ field.
If a logo is used for such a function, then it is sensible to explain that function in the alt text of the logo. Writing what the image represents (as in, “this is an envelope”) doesn’t make sense.
As we saw in the case of icons, for buttons also we need to explain what a button does in the alt text. For example, if a button click will initiate a search function, in the alt text we must explain that it is a search function.
The best practices from Google on writing alt texts for icons, logos and buttons show that the main reason for alt texts for them is accessibility and not SEO.
The alt texts in these logos and buttons will help users that use screen readers to find what they are meant to be. It will also help search engines find the reason for the existence of these logos and buttons.
In conclusion we can say that alt texts in logos and images have no SEO value but only accessibility value.
