Adding Keywords in Business Description in Google My Business

Local business owners know how important it is to list their businesses in Google My Business (GMB), or Google Business Profile, as it is now known.

It is critical to add all the information pertaining to your business in GMB, including your working hours.

Often, your details in GMB form the basis of your local SEO performance. The consistency of NAP – Name, Address, Phone Number – across the internet generally starts with how you represent your business in GMB.

Adding keywords to business name

Can I add my keywords in my business name? This is a question several small business owners ask me.

For example, if you are a hair salon in Kochi, can you have your business name in GMB as say, ABC Hair Salon Kochi?

According to GMB guidelines, you must represent your business name in GMB exactly as how you are known in real world, across signage, stationery, and other branding.

That means, if you are known in the real world as ABC Hair Salon Kochi, then you can represent your business in GMB also in that name.

But if your business name is only ABC Hair Salon in real world, then you are not allowed to add the location name Kochi also.

Adding keywords in business description

A great place to add your targeted keywords in GMB is your business description. Many business owners fail to make use of this option to add their keywords in GMB.

The option to add business description can be found out inside the “Info” button on the left panel of your GMB dashboard.

You can add up to 750 characters in the business description. Use this space to give a detailed description of your business, along with adding your target keywords in it.

Add the details of the services you provide and include the locations where you provide your product or service as well.

When users in your locations are looking for the product or service you provide, Google will list your business in the local pack of search results.
