Discovered – Currently not Indexed: Another Reason to Create Original Content on The Website

If you have noticed the status “Discovered – currently not indexed” for your website in Google Search Console, then you need to find out the real reason behind the status.

If you are a small website and it has original, fresh content, then you need not worry as the status will go away without you doing anything.

It is only a matter of time that the status will change and all the pages on the website will come to be indexed by Google.

However, if you see that the status doesn’t change for a long time, even after giving many “Request indexing,” then you must look at the quality of your content.

If your content is not original, then Google may think that your content is not worth indexing and will skip indexing them.

For example, if you have a piece of content that has already got published somewhere else, even if you have given due credit to the original content, then you may find that Google doesn’t index the content. It is because Google thinks your content is not worth indexing as it has already indexed the content from elsewhere.

If that’s the case, then you will find the status “Discovered – currently not indexed” for a longer period of time.

What can be done?

If it’s not an original content, you may need to review the content and add more valuable content on it. You can try out the “skyscraper technique” of creating more valuable content from the existing content. You can find more about the skyscraper technique in content marketing from the website of Semrush.

If you have two content that are similar in nature, but aren’t exactly the same, you can add both these content pieces together and create a better content piece than either of the two.

Other reasons for the status

It is not always that you find the “Discovered – currently not indexed” status because you don’t have original content on your website. There could be other reasons too.

Server overload – Check with your hosting providers if you have a server overload issue that might be preventing Google from crawling your website content.

Content overload – If you have much more content than Google is willing to crawl and index, then you may get the “Discovered – currently not indexed” status in Google Search Console. Make sure that you have unique, original content in your website and use robots.txt to stop Google robots from indexing duplicate content.

Bad internal link structure – If the internal link structure of your website is bad, then Google may find it difficult to find, crawl and index all pages of your website. Fix the issue by improving the internal link structure of your website.
