You have created a good website for your business, with beautiful design and informative content for your users. But guess what will happen if no one is seeing your website?
If search engines can’t find your website, crawl it and index it, then you will not appear in the search results when your prospective customer is looking for the product or service you provide.
In normal circumstances search engines will find your website and add it to their index. And then, when someone is looking for your product or service, search engines will show your website in the results page.
However, if your website is not appearing in search engines at all, then you must check the reason behind it and solve the issue.
Your website is brand new – If your website is brand new, then it will take some time before search engines find you and index your website. If that’s the case, then you must not worry and wait for a few days.
Once search engines find you, they will crawl your website and add it to their index.
Your website isn’t linked to any external website – Search engines can easily find you if your website is linked to other external websites. Once search engines crawl those external websites, they will find your link and then come to your website to crawl it.
Without linking to other external websites, search engines may take longer to find your website and crawl it. As an owner of a new website, you must make sure that you are linking your website to external websites.
Your website navigation makes it difficult to search engine robots to crawl – If your website structure is complex, with many important pages added deep down inside many folders, then search engine robots may find it difficult to navigate and find the pages.
Make sure that you have a simple website structure, making it easy to search engine robots and human visitors to find all pages easily.
Your website uses crawler directives to block search engines – Sometimes website owners may choose to block the search engines from finding and indexing their website using crawler directives.
For example, when you are doing a revamp of your website, you may not want search engines to crawl and index your website until the revamp is over. Then you may block search engine robots from finding you.
There could be occasions where you forget to remove the crawler directives once the revamp is complete. In such cases, you may find that your website is not appearing in search engines as you have blocked them.
Your website is penalized by search engines – I saved the worst reason for the last. If your website is being penalized by search engines for spammy tactics, then your website will not appear on search engines.
If you are penalized, then you may find it difficult to get back to the search engine index. Therefore, make sure that you never follow any spammy tactics to get into the first page of search engine results pages.
If you find that your website isn’t appearing in search engines, make sure to check that you are not appearing because of the mentioned reasons.
